Dual-Fuel L35/44DF Four-Stroke Engine Moves towards Market Entry
At an official event in Augsburg representatives from all major classification societies awarded type approval to MAN Diesel & Turbo’s L35/44DF engine. The engine showed a perfect performance and is now certified for GenSet and Controllable Pitch Propeller (CPP) operation all over the world. Lasting from March 30 to April 2 this has been the longest type approval test (TAT) MAN has run so far. Within the shipping industry, all new engines require type approval before installation on board a ship. Class certificates are valid for 5-7 years. Continue reading
New VERBIO plant for the production of biomethane from 100 percent straw commissioned as scheduled
VERBIO Vereinigte BioEnergie AG successfully commissions another major production site for the production of biomethane at Schwedt/Oder. The new plant uses a new internally generated technology to manufacture biomethane from 100 percent straw.
The development of this innovative technology at the Schwedt/Oder location is supported by the European Union’s NER 300 subsidy project, providing funding of up to EUR 22.3 million over the period from 2014 to 2019. Continue reading

GAZPROM Germania GmbH is expanding its network of natural gas filling stations. GAZPROM Germania and German utility EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG (EnBW) today signed an agreement that will see GAZPROM Germania acquire four natural gas filling stations in Stuttgart and Nagold from EnBW on 1 May 2015. Shell officially opened its first Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) lanes in Europe, at a truck refuelling station in Rotterdam Waalhaven, the Netherlands. Westport Launches New Combustion Technology with Volvo Cars
Westport Innovations Inc. engineering the world’s most advanced natural gas engines and vehicles, today announced the introduction of Westport’s new combustion technology in Volvo Car Company’s new Drive-E powertrain bi-fuel engine.
Volvo Cars is the first OEM to feature the new Westport system. It will be used on on Volvo’s new two-litre, direct injection, four-cylinder Drive-E powertrain family, which will be available on the Volvo V60 and V70 2016 models. Continue reading
Finland’s largest upgraded biogas production facility opened by LABIO and Gasum in Lahti
A major step forward was taken in the Finnish bioenergy sector as an integrated biogas production and upgrading facility was opened as a joint project of LABIO and Gasum in Kujala, Lahti, on Thursday March 5, 2015. The facility is a prime example of the promotion of circular economy as it will produce 50 GWh of upgraded biogas from 44,000 tonnes of waste per year. The Kujala facility is the largest producer of upgraded biogas in Finland in terms of production capacity. Renewable and 100% Finnish, biogas offers a flexible and efficient way of reducing emissions from energy consumption. Continue reading
Argos takes delivery of the UK’s first dedicated Euro 6 gas-powered Scania tractor units
The UK’s first dedicated Euro 6 gas-powered Scania tractor unit has now entered service with leading UK digital retailer, Argos, with four more being commissioned later this month.
In addition to meeting the Euro 6 exhaust emissions standard when operated on biomethane carbon dioxide, reductions of up to 70 per cent can be achieved. The vehicles are also extremely quiet, meaning they are particularly suitable for use in rural areas. Continue reading
Gasrec urges speedy adoption of new EU agreement over increased weight allowance for low emission technology in HGVs (Heavy Goods Vehicle)
Gasrec, Europe’s leading supplier of liquefied gas fuel for transport, has welcomed the European Union’s latest compromise agreement with the European Parliament which will pave the way for an increase in weight for HGVs converting to run on gas, ensuring they maintain their full load carrying capacity.
Under the agreement, investment in clean fuels such as liquefied biomethane and LNG for transport, will be encouraged through the authorisation of a weight increase of up to one tonne for vehicles using these fuels where the technologies require the extra weight. Continue reading
